Overview

The County of Contra Costa embodies an area approximately 750 square miles and a population of over one million. The Sheriff’s Patrol Division provides uniformed law enforcement services to approximately 517,454 residents who either live in part of Contra Costa’s 521 square miles of unincorporated land, a contract city, or a special district such as the Town of Discovery Bay.

The Golden Gate Division of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) encompasses nine Bay Area counties covering 7,000 square miles: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma. The CHP provides monthly reports at the Town of Discovery Bay CSD meetings, on the first Wednesday of each month. For further information, the public is encouraged to attend these meetings to become more familiar with CHP efforts in our community.

Contra Costa County Community Warning System

The County’s Community Warning System is designed to notify the public in case of toxic spills, floods, fires and other disasters. There are sirens installed near plants from Oakley to Richmond. They are clearly audible one mile away from the plants signaling people to go inside and listen to the radio and television for instructions. Money for the system was raised by voluntary contributions from industry and water treatment and wastewater treatment plants that handle hazardous chemicals.
